As part of the project "Preserve and protect the unique biodiversity of Bosnia and Herzegovina", which is led by BHHU: ATRA and supported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Tourism of Federation BiH, we organised the first herpetological exhibition of live animals in Sarajevo, under the name: "The mysterious world of amphibians and reptiles ". The exhibition was organized in cooperation with ART cinema Kriterion in Sarajevo, where the event took place. The exhibition was open to the public in the period from June 1 to June 07, 2017 between 12:00 to 19:00 p.m.
Visitors of the exhibition had the opportunity to see 34 species of animals, of which 21 reptile species (72% of the total number of reptiles present in BiH) and 13 species of amphibians (62% of the total number of amphibians present in BiH). This is an impressive exhibition since it contained the majority of members of both classes of animals present in the entire country. Of the exposed species, we highlight the presence of all three poisonous snakes (Vipera berus, Vipera ursinii and Vipera ammodytes) and the lizard Ablepharus kitaibelii whose existence has been confirmed after 40 years in our country. For the youngest participants, a daily workshop was organized where children had the opportunity to learn even more about the amphibians and reptiles of our country through organized lectures and different activites.
The exhibition was attended by a total of 985 citizens, of which 40% were children aged 6-10 years. We were visited by two schools: "Second Gymnasium Sarajevo" and International School "Bloom".
The media coverage of the exhibition was remarkable! You can see the video clip that shows the atmosphere of the exhibition itself on you tube.
